"Light" Surname Obituaries

Roscoe Wade Light

NARROWS, Va. - Roscoe Wade Light, 83, of Narrows passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003 at his residence.

Roscoe was born Feb. 9, 1920 in Floyd County, Va., he was the son of the late Herman and Blanche Board Light.

In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Myra Robertson Light; and a daughter-in-law, Rosetta Sweat Light.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the tank destroyers under General Omar Bradley and General George C. Patton. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Following his military service, he returned to Narrows and was employed by Celanese Acetate for 24 years. During that time, he founded R. W. Light and Sons from March 1st, 1960, which he owned and operated with his sons until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Verna A. Light of Narrows; two sons, Leon Light and wife, Cindy of Narrows and Richard Light of Narrows; a sister, Eva French of Narrows; two stepdaughters, Flois B. Evans and husband, Jim of Pearisburg, Va., and Melva B. Wendehack and husband, Fred of Locust Grove, Va.; two granchildren, Susan Light and fiance, Ronnie Bland of Blacksburg, Va., and Jonathan Light of Narrows; five step-grandchildren, Dr. Jim Evans and wife, Kathryn of Los Lunas, N.M., Vera Epling and husband, Tim of Pearisburg, Robyn Soldz and husband, Stanley of Fredricksburg, Carol Mahoney and husband, Kevin of Crofton, Md., and Lynn Kuzminsky and husband, Jerry of Littleton, Colo.; 8 step-greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows with the Rev. Layne Board and the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg with graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post #68 of Narrows and Post #311 of Pembroke, and VFW Post #6000 of Narrows.

The family will receive friends at Riffe's Funeral Service today from 6-9 p.m.
